Mayan culture and ours

Postby kazi » Fri Aug 21, 2009 8:56 am

From the little that I know about the Mayan culture, and for that matter, our own culture (varnashrama dharma) I have found many similarities between the two seemingly distinct cultures, geographically, religiously, etc. I have not read any literature regarding this, but my observations show several unexplained similarities. I think our culture might possibly have been devolved from the Mayans. It is just a hunch.

I don't know much about the Mayans but when I read native Indians of North America, I did find many similarities with Hinduism. The Indians believe everything is god and they worship the sun, moon, thunder and even the deer they kill for food. Additionally, they believe in the immortality of our soul and life after death. Makes me feel that the Indian culture and Hinduism were somehow closely related in the past.

That is certainly a possibility. I really wish an anthropologist would enlighten us. I remember someone talking about humans starting from the African continent. I have always found it a source of wonder because somehow I seem to find patterns of similarity. If we have an anthropologist among our members, kindly write a few words or point us to sources that we can refer.

SOL de VENTO, the wind-god of the Aztecs, is responsible for the demolishing hurricanes. This God, in order to protect the people, gave them monkey form to be able to hold onto trees with the tail. And in our stories, we know that Hanuman is the son of Vaayu... interesting, even if Aztecs are different from Mayans.

Yes. Even the Greeks have gods just like the Hindus. (Here is a complete list of the Greeks that you can go to and compare with that of the Hindus.) And Achilles could very well have been Karna. My thoughts but I find them very much related. As I grow older, I and tending more towards believing that everything in this world is connected!

Well, its not only similarity that I am interested in. I am interested in knowing how far back into time the associations can be made. The earlier the association, the closer the link. I may be wrong because its just a hunch. But we need to examine the facts.
