NYT has an interesting article on ways to book a flight if you want it the cheapest. Of course, you need to spend a little more time from your side but the results should be valuable enough.

Personally, I am scared of buying too cheap a ticket on the net. But then it seems there is cut throat competition out there and tickets sometimes really are cheap. Next time I travel, I will go through the sites mentioned in the article and let you know of the experience. Until then, let us know of your own experience.
