Traditional medicine for loss of voice

Postby Ganesha » Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:40 pm

Can anyone tell me what the traditional Nepali solution for loss of voice is? I think they drank something but am not sure what it was.

The best home remedy for loss of voice is GINGER.Put a piece of ginger in your mouth just like a candy(if you want you can burn the piece in fire)overnight.Don't chew first.Let the juice go inside your throat, then you can chew later.
This method really really works. Try it. :)

yep, I've heard about dried ginger and used it too.. its soothing. but I think a more fun way is to use icecream.. the idea is to keep the irritation away by keeping the throat moist.. so moderation is the key.. specially for kids. unbelievably even the throad seems to dry up.

Thank you vaidehi and kazi. I started using your medication. Somebody was recommending "Bodho" (I don't know what it is called in English) but I guess, it is not very widely available.

Only the other day I saw ginger-flavored icecream.. the best of both worlds.. :) you should try it. At first its disgusting, but then you get used to it.

Never heard of that. Will try to look for it next time we go out. But there is cold connected with the loss of voice. Don't know if ice-cream goes well with cold... I know Westerners do enjoy ice-cream even when suffering from cold saying it allows the body to fight back better but for a Nepali body like mine, It is still a question until I try.

I don't know either.. its probably something I read or heard from somebody. I cannot provide first hand attestation of the validity of the approach.

And as far as Nepali body.. hehe.. I'll have to take your word for it. :)
